The Shift from "Thin to Healthy"
by Grace Machin of HealthMastery

The thing about Health & Fitness, is that the themes and ideas, keep changing. It is a topic, that most women tend to take interest in, and there’s always something new to learn.

My experience as a Personal Trainer, has lead me to believe, that people’s motivation to exercise has changed. It’s not all about being the ideal model-like physique. It’s not about vanity so much, it’s not always about fashion.

My clients want to be thin, but they would rather be fit. What is your motivation to exercise? Do you want to take control of your health regime, or are you starving yourself, losing energy and becoming easily irritated? I am so pleased to hear that some of my clients, have a different primary motivation, that being, that doing exercise would help them to be healthier and fitter!

That’s what they want! In an age where fad diets don’t work, where eating disorders and obesity are common, we need to think about things differently. With determination, perseverance and accountability, you can succeed in your goals.

Your success comes from how you think about things. Pick a healthy motivation, and your confidence will increase as you know you are helping yourself. When a number or size is the goal (and that is ok, everyone works differently), we do seem to become fixed on the number, and easily disheartened if it doesn’t budge!

Everyone wants to lose weight, but maybe setting our focus on participating in a fun walk/run, or sport, will help us get there smoothly and progressively, without having to think too much??? If you are doing types of exercise that you enjoy, then you are more likely to do them often. This also leads to long-term success! Maybe you are getting married, wanting to have kids, or just want to feel better about yourself?

You will feel great if firstly you have more energy. You get this energy by slowly increasing your level of exercise week by week, but also fuelling yourself with the right foods. You will notice that you are more likely to have results that last with your weight and fitness, if you make your priority goal relevant to where you are now.

Think about it! Establish a primary health goal and then break it down. Your secondary goals will happen, just because you are being active in wanting to achieve that first motivation!!

This is just my perspective, everyone is different and embraces their health in various ways. Just focus on the positives and be accountable to a Personal Trainer or friend.

Good luck!! Yours in Health and Fitness, Grace
